Dr. Ben Carson, born on September 18, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, is an American neurosurgeon, author, and politician. He gained international fame for performing the first successful separation of conjoined twins joined at the back of the head in 1987. Carson also developed innovative surgical techniques such as the hemispherectomy, a procedure to control seizures by removing part of the brain. Carson's career extended beyond medicine; he served as the U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 2017 to 2021 under President Donald Trump. He was also a Republican presidential candidate in the 2016 primaries.
